He said they may have to close Interfaith Hospitality Network down and will make that decision after meeting with their board of directors. Tina from the Salvation Army said they have been giving a lot of services to families and had been busy. Michelle Sandoval of The Wayside Cross Gospel Mission said Pastor Keith Colvin was no longer with the Mission. Ms. Sandoval stated she will be handling development as well as operational duties. She also noted they had been turning away 5-10 men away at night and are getting rid of staff bedrooms to make more room for more men. Levetta Love of The Department of Social Services said they had a new record number of applications for services. In July, they received 4,268 applications for assistance and most of the applications were for food stamps. Gail Rodosevich of Colorado Legal Services said they were working on developing new programs for the Pueblo community. She plans to update Continuum members next month on the details of these new programs. Her office has opened 157 new files. Margaret Reibert stated her staff at the YWCA had been busy and overwhelmed. She reminded Continuum members of the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event on October 2, 2009. She circulated flyers and also spoke of their golf event on August 29th to include a fundraising raffle. Ms. Reibert also said they were hiring a DV case manager to be placed at the Department of Social Services. LeeAnn Van Dell introduced herself as community volunteer and plans to volunteer for Posada with the Holiday Blessing Store and the Health Fair/Community Picnic next summer. Ede DelaTore is filling in for Marcie Reynolds with Cooperative Care Center. She said their agency has documented many new applicants including people coming in people from out of town and recently unemployed persons needing services. Shirley Knaflec of Catholic Charities Diocese of Pueblo said they were in the middle of doing utility assistance and will be out of money by the end of next week. CCDP was able to assist households with gas and electric bills because LEAP ended. She also said rent and mortgage assistance money from the city was almost gone. They will have ARRA funds for those recently unemployed and can help with rent or mortgage payments. Jonna Adamich of Our Lady of the Meadow Peace and Justice is busy coordinating volunteers for the Holiday Blessing Store. Linda Loraine of the Southern Colorado AIDS Project said Theresa Martinez would be offering free HIV Testing on August 25, 2008 from 1:00-4:30pm at Glendale4. Linda also reported on new Sexually Transmitted Infection numbers. Arthur Yarbrough of Spanish Peaks Mental Health Center said a group called Convoy of Hope would be hosting a health fair in conjunction with grocery assistance and other services on September 19, 2009. This event will be held at Midtown and agencies and welcome to come and give out material regarding their services. Arthur said he would like to see how they handle their health fair so he could learn and prepare for the health fair to be held in conjunction with the community picnic next summer Roberta Tafoya of Crossroad Turning Point brought a list of phone numbers and extensions for Crossroads. She said the detox had been full and they continued to deal with the overflow from the Colorado Springs detox closure. She estimated they had at least three people daily from El Paso and a lot of new locals. She also noted July was a record month for number of clients served and August will probably be the same way. Kristen Castor of Access for All stated that she was working with local and statewide groups to combat the cuts that would be happening statewide due to the budget crisis. It is obvious to all that Medicaid cuts and A&D cuts will occur but Kristen said that by working with advocacy groups there is a chance to mitigate the effects of the cuts so that they are not life threatening. She will be in touch with the Continuum of Care about future actions in regards to the State budget crisis. II. Minutes of July 2009: Were accepted with one change to the date of the minutes. The minutes read June 16, 2009 when they should have read July 21, 2009. III. Continuum of Care SuperNofa Funding: Thank you to all those who wrote a letter of support for the Pueblo projects. Because projects are renewed annually, support letters must be submitted annually. The extra work is appreciated. ARRA Funding- Catholic Charities still has funding available for rent, utility and mortgage assistance through the EFSP program. An application will go forward to the City of Pueblo through a combined application with Catholic Charities, Colorado Legal Services and Posada. More information will be forthcoming about the process and the funds available to newly homeless and unemployed households in Pueblo. IV. TB Cards Jo Scher of the Pueblo City/County Health Department said they now have a small grant to set up Tuberculosis (TB) screening cards. These cards will be renewable each year. One of the main purposes would be to identify and provide treatment for patients who have latent TB. The Pueblo City/County Health Department has seen some residual effects from the active cases in the homeless population in 2007. She said that there is a database that keeps track of people with TB, the database is called TBDB. Certain service providers could get access to the database to help collect demographics and status information on clients. V. Events a. Homeless Stand Down-The Veterans Homeless Stand Down will be held on September 25, 2009. As in years past, it will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 220 West 10th Street. b. Ms. Jonna Adamich of Our Lady of the Meadows Peace and Justice has graciously offered her time and efforts to coordinate the volunteers, etc. c. Health Fair Arthur Yarbrough of Spanish Peaks Mental Health is requesting more volunteers participate in the organization of the next Health Fair in conjunction with the 2010 Summer Community Picnic. VI. Farm Workers Issues Sister Nancy Crafton of Centro de los Pobres said they have registered more citizens for food and rent and utilities. She said she was pleased to see article in the Chieftain on Thomas Tienda. Mr. Tienda has been accused of renting out rooms above a restaurant that was burned on Santa Fe. He is renting these uninhabitable and unsafe rooms to migrant workers and charging incredible amounts of money. It was noted the current warrant of habitability is being interpreted by Colorado Legal Services and a pro-bono provider. Continuum members agreed that additional media attention should be brought to this type of landlord and their inhumane business practices. VII.
